How to Fit an LED Face Mask Into Your Skincare Routine

The short answer: For Aura Ray, start with clean, dry skin, follow the mask's instructions and timer, then continue with moisturizer. Plan a few sessions per week as directed, rather than adding longer sessions in the hope of faster results.

A routine should be easy to repeat and simple to stop if your skin feels uncomfortable. You do not need to build your entire skincare shelf around an LED mask.

Before your first session

Read the instructions supplied with your mask, including eye protection, contraindications, charging, and cleaning. Speak with a clinician about light-sensitive conditions or medications before using it. The American Academy of Dermatology also recommends advice for people with darker skin tones because visible light can contribute to pigmentation.[1]

The steps below reflect Aura Ray's brand-supplied usage information. They are not a universal protocol for other devices, and they are not a personalized recommendation.

Your Aura Ray routine, step by step

  1. Cleanse and dry. Begin with clean, dry skin. Do not add an unapproved serum or cream underneath the mask.
  2. Connect the equipment. Connect the mask to its handheld controller as shown in the supplied Type-C connection instructions. Charge and operate the device only as the manual permits.
  3. Fit the mask. Adjust the strap without excessive pressure and follow the required eye-protection instructions.
  4. Power on. Aura Ray's supplied directions say to hold the power key for three seconds. Select the intended mode using the controller instructions.
  5. Set the timer. Press T to choose 5, 10, or 15 minutes, following the manual's recommended setting.
  6. Relax while awake. Remain able to stop the device. Remove it when the program finishes.
  7. Moisturize and maintain sun protection. Continue your ordinary skincare. For a daytime routine, apply your usual sunscreen as directed on its label; LED use does not replace sun protection.

How often should I use it?

Aura Ray's supplied guidance says a few times per week. Use the schedule in your manual and do not add extra sessions to compensate for a missed day. The stated maximum is 30 minutes per session, but that is a ceiling—not the target duration or an invitation to repeat timer cycles.

Make space for the routine by pairing it with a calm activity you already do while seated and awake. Consistency means following an appropriate schedule, not using the device as often as possible.

Should I use all four modes in one sitting?

Not simply because four modes are available. The settings identify different wavelength combinations: green 525 nm, yellow 590 nm, red 660 nm, and red 660 nm plus near-infrared 850 nm. They are not four steps that must be completed one after another. Follow the mode and session directions supplied with the device.

What about retinol, exfoliating acids, or prescription skincare?

Do not assume every ingredient or medication is compatible just because the mask is used at home. Ask your dermatologist or pharmacist about your existing routine and any light-sensitivity concerns. Do not discontinue a prescribed product based on a blog article. The simplest starting point is the manufacturer's clean, dry-skin instruction, with any changes agreed with your clinician.

Morning or evening?

Choose a time that lets you follow the directions without rushing. There is no Aura Ray-specific evidence presented here that one time of day gives better results. If you use the mask in the evening, remember normal daytime sun protection the next day; you do not need to apply sunscreen merely because it is bedtime.

How should I track changes?

If you choose to take personal progress photos, keep the lighting, camera distance, expression, and skincare consistent. Avoid filters. Record comfort and any reactions as well as appearance. Do not treat changes in lighting or temporary hydration as evidence that the device caused a result.

Individual results vary. This guide does not promise a visible change by a particular week. Stop for a concerning reaction and seek appropriate advice.
